Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Captioneha collects when you use the website, the iOS app, or the Android app, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Captioneha is a caption studio for the web, iOS, and Android (package / bundle ID com.captioneha.app). We help you turn speech in a video into timed captions, then edit, translate, and export.
Account
You sign in with Google or Apple. We receive your name, email, profile photo (Google only), and the provider’s user ID. In the iOS app you can also continue without an account: we then create an anonymous guest ID with no name or email, used only to keep your clips and credits together until you sign in or delete the guest data. We store that profile in Firebase Authentication and Firestore so we can keep you signed in, show your name, and attach credits and clips to your account.
Video and audio
Your video file stays on your device. On the web it is kept in this browser. On iOS and Android it stays in the app’s local files. We do not upload the video to Firebase Storage or Cloud Run. When you generate captions, we extract audio only and send that audio to our transcription service on Google Cloud Run. That audio, together with the caption and translation languages you choose, is shared with a third-party AI speech-to-text service to return timed text: Soniox, Inc. in the iOS app, and Soniox or OpenAI on the web and Android. The iOS app asks for your permission before the first upload and sends nothing if you decline; you can change that choice any time under AI data sharing in the account menu. These providers process the audio only to produce your captions under terms that protect it at least as strictly as this policy, and we ask Soniox to delete the audio and transcript as soon as the captions are returned. We do not use your video or audio to train our own models.
Captions and library
Caption lines, translations, style, crop, and clip metadata (such as duration and file name) are saved to your Firestore library so you can reopen a project. Thumbnails may be stored on the device. You can delete a clip from the library; that removes the project data we stored for it.
Credits and payments
We store your credit balance and recent purchase amounts. On the website, dinar packs are paid through CIB or EDAHABIA (Satim), and euro packs are paid by card. Those checkouts receive your signed-in email and name, the pack you chose, and the amount. On iOS, credits are sold through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment. We receive a signed transaction (product ID and transaction ID) so we can add credits. On Android, credits are sold through Google Play Billing (Google Pay). Google processes the payment. We receive a purchase token and product ID so we can add credits. On iOS and Android, if your IP is in Algeria you can also pay in dinars with CIB or EDAHABIA. We never see your full card number.
How we use data
We use this information to run the product: sign you in, generate captions, charge and refund credits, show payment history, and keep the app working. On the website, iOS, and Android we may look up your approximate country from your IP address (via ipapi.co or ipwho.is) so we can offer CIB / EDAHABIA in Algeria and card checkout elsewhere. We also store language and theme preferences on the device. We do not sell your personal information.
Who we share with
We use Google (Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Hosting, and Google Play Billing on Android), speech providers OpenAI and Soniox for transcription, Apple for iOS purchases, Satim / CIB for card payments in Algeria, a card processor for euro payments on the website, and IP lookup services (ipapi.co and ipwho.is) for country detection. Those parties process data only to provide their service to us.
Retention and deletion
We keep account, library, credit, and payment records until you delete your account. In the iOS or Android app, open the account menu and choose Delete account. That removes your Firebase Auth user, profile, clip library, credit balance, and payment documents tied to you. Audio sent for transcription is processed to produce captions and is not kept as a video archive.
Children
Captioneha is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy when the product changes. The date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
